Nigeria records 307 new cases of Coronavirus

307 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Nigeria on Sunday, May 31, 2020.  According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control NCDC, 188 cases were recorded in Lagos, 44 in FCT, 19 in Ogun, 14 in Kaduna, 12 in Oyo, 9 in Bayelsa, 5 in Gombe, 3 in Kano, 3 in Delta, 2 in Imo, 2 in Rivers, 2 in Niger, 2 in Bauchi, 1 in Plateau, and 1in Kwara state. In total, Nigeria has recorded 10162 cases of COVID-19. 3007 patients have been discharged from various Isolation centers across the country, while 287 deaths have been recorded. 

Pastor EA Adeboye reacts to the rape and murder of UNIBEN student, Uwa Omozuwa, in one of the branches of his church

Pastor E.A. Adeboye has reacted to the rape and murder of Uwa Omozuwa in one of the branches of his church, RCCG. Pastor Adeboye, who is the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, reacted on Instagram. He wrote: "All I can do at this time is to pray for the family of Omozuwa and do everything possible working with relevant authorities to bring the perpetrators to book. I and members of my Family condemn this act strongly and urge everyone to stay calm as we are already looking into the matter and cooperating with the police to establish the facts of the shocking situation . . #justiceforuwa" The Redeemed Christian Church of God also released a statement. In it, they explained why Uwa was in church during the lockdown, how she was found, and the actions taken after she was found lying in the pool of her blood. Read the full statement below.

36 year old Medical doctor dies from COVID-19 complications in Jigawa

A 36-year-old medical doctor in Jigawa state, Nasir Adam, has died from COVID-19 complications. According to reports, Nasir died at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Birninkudu after battling with acute respiratory disease and was later said to have contracted the novel Coronavirus.  Until his death, he was the Medical Officer in the Department of Internal Medicine, Federal Medical Centre, Birnin Kudu in the state. Born in Jos, Plateau State capital in 1984, the deceased doctor had his primary and secondary education in Jos. He graduated from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria in 2012 and did his housemanship in the Federal Medical Center. In a related development, the state government today discharged 22 COVID-19 patients after testing negative twice for the virus.

Singer/actress Lady Gaga, has branded President Donald Trump a ‘racist fool’ in a lengthy statement addressing the death of George Floyd and the protests that have followed.  George Floyd, an unarmed and handcuffed black man, died after being arrested by police for alleged use of counterfeit currency with footage showing police officer Derek Chauvin kneeling on his neck as he struggled to breathe and eventually died.  Chauvin was arrested Friday on suspicion of third-degree murder. Colonel Hameed Ali (retd), the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service on Saturday May 30, married a new wife.  The NCS comptroller who served as the military administrator of Kaduna State from 1996 to 1998, took a new wife nearly two years after his first wife Hajiya Hadiza Jummai Ali died in Abuja on October 29, 2018.  The low-key wedding ceremony took place in Kano State and here are photos below;

In the wake of protests that erupted in different American cities over the police killing of George Floyd last week, US President Donald J. Trump on Sunday announced that the US would be designating ‘Antifa’ as a terrorist organization. Antifa, who describe themselves as an anti-fascist group, have been targeted by Trump during times of civil unrest and protests, and Trump and Attorney General William Barr have blamed ‘Antifa’ for violence and property damage during the protests. Antifa, short for anti-fascists, is a fluid movement consisting of left-wing activists, anarchists and other militant anti-fascist demonstrators. Trump's designation would place the group in the same bracket with international organizations such as ISIS and Al Qaeda, as well as white supremacist organizations such as the Ku Klux Klan . “The United States of America will be designating ANTIFA as a Terrorist Organization,” Trump tweeted on Sunday evening . Singer Djinee has said parents need to do better in raising their sons after 22-year-old UNIBEN student, Uwa Omozuwa, was brutalized, raped, and murdered while reading inside a church. Uwa's assault in Benin has been condemned by Nigerians all over the country. With the hashtag, #JusticeForUwa, Nigerians are calling for Uwa's attackers, who are still walking free, to be found and prosecuted. Reacting to Uwa's death, Ego singer, Djinee wrote: "Uwa's story breaks me. We all have to admit that our parents have failed woefully in the raising of the male child. American singer, Faith Evans was reportedly arrested for domestic violence after she allegedly attacked her husband, Stevie J, during a heated argument last week. According to TMZ, Police were called to the couple's Los Angeles home around 1 am after an argument allegedly turned violent between the both of them. The gossip site reported that law enforcement 'noticed visible marks and scratches on Stevie's face' and Faith was 'arrested, booked, and then posted bond.' If the arrest report is true, it would be Evans' first violent felony after arrests for cocaine/marijuana possession in 2004 and drunk driving in 2010. Evans and Stevie J, who both became friends after working closely in the ’90s under Bad Boy Records, got married in a secret ceremony in July 2018.

Man narrates how he was allegedly thrown out of a Lagos church by 2am because his dressing was ''worldy''

A Nigerian man has narrated how he was allegedly thrown out of a Church in Lagos Island, after deciding to spend the night there.  Narrating the incident which occurred 3 years ago, Maxwell HoneyMoon said he was not homeless but walked into the church by 7pm after leaving a tailor's shop who had just disappointed him around Mandillas in Lagos Island.  He said he decided to stay back after the church service so he could go to his tailor's shop to pick up his item in the morning. He however allegedly got kicked out around 2am by some members of the church who told him he can't stay there because his dressing was "worldly".  The Facebook user wrote;  This is not a CALL OUT, there is no pain, anger or malice against this CHURCH in making this post, or at least not anymore.
