Edo-based clergyman, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has vowed to resist the Company and Allied Matters Acts (CAMA) recently signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari. The law permits the registrar-general of Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and a supervising minister to strictly supervise religious bodies and charity organizations. The law also gives the commission power to suspend the trustees of an association or a religious body and appoint an interim manager or managers to coordinate its affairs where it reasonably believes that there has been any misconduct or mismanagement, or where the affairs of the association are being run fraudulently or where it is necessary or desirable for the purpose of public interest. Syria war: Russian and US blame each other after their military vehicles collide injuring American troops

                            The Russian and US governments have blamed each other after Russian and US armoured vehicles in north-eastern Syria collided on Wednesday August 26, injuring US troops. In a video broadcast by a Russian nationalist website, Rusvesna.su , a Russian military vehicle in a desert convoy could be seen ramming a US armoured car, as a Russian helicopter flew low overhead. Recently, news of numerous incidents involving US forces in north-eastern Syria have become the norm.  Almost a week ago, US forces came under fire from Russia's Syrian allies while in February 2018 a large force of Russian mercenaries launched an assault against US positions near a major oilfield.  But this latest incident is the first time there was a direct confrontation between the official Russian military and US troops.  The US government say this is part of a pattern of incidents as Russia is breaking a variety of local co-ordination agreements as a wa

22 CBT centres de-listed by JAMB for defrauding 11,823 UTME candidates of N59m

The management of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has delisted 22 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres for allegedly defrauding 11,823 candidates to the tune of N59million.  JAMB's Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede who made the announcement during a meeting with representatives of the affected centres on Thursday August 27, added that any centre that shared the same ownership with the blacklisted centres would be suspended from all JAMB activities. Oloyede disclosed that the de-listed centres carried out the fraud by charging more than N200 as service charge for the centres to effect correction on profile as well as bypassing One-Time Password (OTP) required of candidates to initiate such changes. The fraud was uncovered following undercover payments to the centres. The affected centres are Bright Stars, Aba, Abia State, 68 candidates; Flourish Computer Centre, Akwa Ibom State-105; Ibom-E-Library, Akwa Ibom-12; Chukwuemeka Odumegwu University, Ig

The Federal government has shifted the resumption date of international flights to September 5. Hadi Sirikia, the Minister of Aviation, had earlier announced that the date for resumption for International flights was Saturday, August 29. Read  here. However, at the daily briefing of the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 in Abuja on Thursday August 27, the Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority NCAA, Musa Shuaibu Nuhu, announced that the date has now been moved to September 5. According to Nuhu, while airlines and airports were ready to operate, other non-aviation logistics were not and this has necessitated the one-week extension. “We have other non-aviation logistics we are still working on, mostly the COVID-19 protocol tests and online platform. US 2020 Elections: Trump challenges Biden to drug test before debate

                               Barely three months to the US presidential elections, the US President Donald Trump, has challenged Democratic challenger, Joe Biden, to drug tests before their first electoral debate next month. Biden, 77, and Mr Trump, 74, will have three debates before the 3 November election.The three presidential debates will take place in Cleveland, Ohio, on 29 September; in Miami, Florida, on 15 October; and Nashville, Tennessee, on 22 October. Back in 2016,  Trump suggested his then-Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton, had been "getting pumped up" before their debates and challenged her to take a drug test ahead of their final live TV encounter.  On Wednesday August 26, Trump made a similar claim, arguing that Mr Biden's debating ability had improved in the final Democratic primaries debate against Bernie Sanders. Cubana Chief Priest allegedly assaults one of his female workers (photos)

Socialite, Cubana Chief Priest has been accused by one of his female workers of assaulting her at Cubana nightclub in Owerri which he manages.  According to @Rukkyjib, the incident occurred on Saturday August 23. She alleged that Cubana Chief Priest punched her in the face and was stopped from attacking her further by eyewitnesses at the scene.  She also revealed that she won't take the alleged assault incident lightly and has reported him to relevant authorities to get him arrested.  She wrote;  Cubana Chief Priest formally known as Paschal Okechukwu assaulted me when I was working at Cubana, Owerri on Saturday 23rd August 2020. Witnesses at the scene saw him punch me in the face and after doing so, Chief Priest was held back by paying customers from attacking me any further. Electoral commission rejects Didier Drogba's candidacy to be president of Ivory Coast Football Federation

                        Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba, has been disqualified from contesting in the upcoming elections to be the next president of the Ivory Coast Football Federation (FIF). Drogba alongside Paul Koffi Kouadio, Diabate and Yacine Idriss Diallo submitted their papers and CV to stand in the polls earlier this month but FIF's Electoral Commission has ruled that the former Chelsea striker did not completely fulfil its list of eligibility criteria. According to the Electoral commission, Drogba's bid was rejected as two of the names he submitted as his sponsors were ruled not to have the necessary authority to be his sponsors. Some Nigerians have taken to social media to celebrate the death of a social media user who mocked President Buhari's former Chief of Staff, late Abba Kyari and his close ally Isa Funtua after their demise.  A friend of the late of the lawyer, confirmed his death in a tribute he shared on Facebook. Big Brother Naija 2019 first runner up, Mike Edwards and his wife, Perri Shakes-Drayton welcomed their first child, a boy named Mathew Olaoluwa Edwards on Wednesday, August 26. The proud father has shared a heart-melting video of his wife delivering their son through water birth at a hospital. In the video, Perri is seen laying in a bathtub filled with water while being surrounded by her husband and a midwife. At one point, the retired British track started screaming in agony as she began to push.  According to the couple, they welcomed the child after 12 hours of labor.  Watch the video below.

US sanctions 24 Chinese companies for helping China build structures in South China Sea

                            The United States has imposed sanctions on 24 Chinese companies for helping the Chinese government build structures in the South China Sea, an action that will surely increase tension between the US and China, who already have a damaged relationship. The sanction, is the first action of its kind by the US against China over the disputed South China Sea. The US Commerce Department, in a statement said the 24 Chinese state-owned companies especially the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), played a "role in helping the Chinese military construct and militarize the internationally condemned artificial islands in the South China Sea" and "must be held responsible." The companies will be added to the Commerce Department's Entity List, according to the statement.  American firms will be restricted from selling US goods and technology to them without a special license. President Buhari presides over virtual Council of State meeting (photos)

President Buhari today hosted a virtual Council of State meeting with former President, Goodluck Jonathan, the only former leader that was present physically. The meeting took place at the Council chambers in the statehouse Abuja and started at about 11am.  Also physically present at the meeting were the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN); Senate President Ahmad Lawan; Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF) Boss Mustapha and Chief of Staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Gambari. The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, and Minister for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Mallam Mohammed Bello, were also physically present at the meeting. Among the former heads of government that attended the meeting virtually were former Military leader, General Ibrahim Babangida; Chief Ernest Shonekan, and General Abdulsalami Abubakar.

Sunmbo Adeoye reveals the horrible things said to her when she experienced a delay in having a child with her husband

Sunmbo Adeoye has cautioned people to be careful with the words they say to women seeking the fruit of the womb. The mum-of-four used her experience as an example to show how much words can hurt a woman waiting for her own child. Sunmbo, who gave birth to two sons before marrying her husband, Pastor David Adeoye, said people began talking when she didn't immediately start having a child with the pastor. She revealed some of the things people told her and how much it hurt and she advised people to desist from saying insensitive words to women and men seeking the fruit of the womb.
