IGP reportedly orders withdrawal of policemen from VIPs amid #EndSARS protests

  The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has reportedly ordered the withdrawal of police officers attached to very important persons (VIP) in Nigeria.   According to TheCable, the directive was issued via a police wireless message on Wednesday, October 21, and is expected to take effect immediately.   This development comes following two weeks of End SARS protests by Nigerians demanding an end to police brutality in the country.   In the directive issued to police zonal commands, only those attached to government houses, the senate president and the speaker of the house of representatives are exempted.   “Inspector-general of police directs you to withdraw all protect personnel attached to all VIPs, except those attached to government houses, senate president, speaker, house of representatives with immediate effect,” the message seen by The Cable reads.   “Any commander who violates this order will bear the consequences. Speak to the nation- Atiku Abubakar appeals to President Buhari (video)

  Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has appealed to President Buhari to address the nation following the unfortunate incident at the Lekki tollgate in Lagos on Tuesday, October 20.   EndSARS protesters who gathered at the tollgate for a protest were shot at by security agents.   In a video shared on his IG page, Atiku said ''I urge President Buhari to speak to the nation even as he speedily implements the demands laid out by our young compatriots''  

Nigerian police is responding to allegations of brutality with more brutality - Trevor Noah on killing at Lekki Toll Gate (video)

  South-African born US-based show host and comedian, Trevor Noah has reacted to the #EndSARS crisis rocking Nigeria and the killing of protesters at Lekki toll gate yesterday October 20.    Giving a detailed analysis on his Comedy Central's 'The Daily Show', Trevor wondered why a police unit created to fight crime became the "crime" itself.    The comedian also pointed out that the disbanded police unit was recreated under a different name. Trevor who noted that the Nigerian police force who is accused of brutality is responding to the allegation with more brutality, further stated that the profiling of young Nigerians because of their dressing and properties is same way police profile black people in the United States. He also affirmed that Nigerians are united in this cause.    Watch the video below;   

UK announces closure of visa application centres in Nigeria

  The UK government has announced the closure of its visa application centres in Nigeria following the violence that has trailed the #EndSARS protest.    In a statement released on Wednesday October 21, it was gathered that the centres will be closed for a minimum of 48 hours. Applicants with booked appointments have been asked to reschedule their appointment till next week.    The statement read;     ‘Important: Closure of our Visa application centre’ on its website said the centres will be closed for 48 hours “at a minimum”. “Due to the ongoing protest in Nigeria and for the safety of both staff and applicants, our Nigeria centres will be closed for 48 hours at a minimum. “For applicants with booked appointments within this period, please you will need to reschedule your appointment for next week, from 26th October 2020. “We will continue to post regular updates on this page, so please keep checking back for the latest i...

Another victim allegedly succumbs to his injuries after ambulance sent to pick him up was stopped at Adekunle, End SARS protest frontliner reveals

  Another person has allegedly died as a result of the violence in Lagos State, Modupe "Moe" Odele, one of the frontliners of the End SARS protest has revealed.   Moe, who is the founder of Scale My Hustle, said the boy died after the ambulance sent to pick him up was stopped at Adekunle in Yaba.   She wrote: "I’m heartbroken. We just got a report that the boy our ambulance was going to get (when they were stopped at Adekunle) just died. Now the arrangement has moved to getting his body.    "This people have failed us."     More people are reporting fatalities despite the state governor stating there were no fatalities.   Another Twitter user just shared a post, tagging Moe and other members of the feminist coalition and asking them to send an ambulance as another person has died.     There have also been reports of emergency service providers being unable to get medical supplies across to victims.

'I have spoken with President Buhari who is committed to end the #EndSARS impasse' - Ghanaian president, Nana Akufo-Addo

  President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo has also reacted to the Lekki tollgate shooting that occurred on Tuesday, October 20.   Reacting via his Twitter handle, Akufo-Addo says he has spoken with President Buhari and that the president is committed to ending the ENDSARS impasse.   His tweets read ''I join all well-meaning persons in calling for calm, and the use of dialogue in resolving the #EndSARS impasse in Nigeria. I have spoken with President Buhari, who is committed to this end, and has begun the processes that will lead to reform. Violence, be it on the part of the Police or protesters, cannot be the solution. To the families who have lost their loved ones, I express my sincere condolences, and I wish the injured a speedy recovery.''
